The number of passengers increased during the week of festivities for the 483rd anniversary of the city of Arequipa and continues the trend of visitor growth since the beginning of 2023 in the southern part of the country.

Arequipa, August 15, 2023 - Andean Airports of Peru (AAP) reported that during the festivities for the 483rd anniversary of Arequipa, a total of 49,178 passengers were served, representing a 4.5% increase in visitors compared to the same period last year. This has had a positive impact on the recovery of tourism in the southern region of the country.

"The Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón Airport in Arequipa has the highest passenger flow so far this year, and we view the recovery of visitors to the region with great optimism. We conducted 322 operations (flights) only in the week from August 11 to 18 for the anniversary, which is 3.5% more than the same period in 2022, and this is the growth trend observed since the beginning of 2023," reported Tito Luque, Administrator of the Arequipa Airport of AAP.

AAP detailed that July was the month of 2023 with the highest influx of visitors in the five airports operating in the regions of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Tacna, Puerto Maldonado, and Juliaca, with a growth of 11.4% in the number of passengers and a 7.6% increase in operations compared to June.

According to the July 2023 operations report from AAP, the Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón terminal received 176,085 passengers. Tacna was the second destination with the most passengers, with 48,156, followed by Juliaca with 44,197, Puerto Maldonado with 31,285, and Ayacucho with 28,427.

Gradual recovery of tourism in the south According to the semi-annual report from AAP, from January to June 2023, passenger traffic in the five southern airports operated by the concessionaire showed a considerable recovery compared to the same period in 2022. The total number of passengers in the first six months of 2023 is 1,575,021 people. In addition, a total of 12,473 air operations have been recorded in the five airports managed by AAP.
