In response to the growth in passenger flow, AAP expects to allocate an investment of 26 million dollars for the project. The air terminal in the White City receives around 180 thousand passengers per month.
Aeropuertos Andinos del Perú (AAP) reported that it will allocate an investment of 26 million dollars for the expansion and modernization of the passenger terminal, redesigning the vehicle parking lot, implementating the emergency operations center and acquiring equipment, among others.
Currently, the airport expansion project is under review by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and, if approved on schedule, construction would begin in the last quarter of 2024.
"Arequipa is the second most visited region in Peru due to its tourist and business importance. Passenger demand is on track to recover pre-pandemic levels, so the approval of the modernization and expansion project of the current terminal has been requested to efficiently support the growth in passenger demand until 2027," stated Raúl Díaz Díaz, General Manager of AAP.
Díaz explained that there has been a progressive increase in the number of visitors to the White City after the social demonstrations that took place at the beginning of this year. "Arequipa shows an increase in passenger flow and reaches around 180,000 passengers per month, so it is expected to reach 2 million in 2023, 15% more than the previous year."
On the other hand, the Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón International Airport concentrates a wide commercial offer. This commercial offer is distributed in 7% international brands and 93% regional brands, of which 28% are regional and 11% are made up of local entrepreneurs who are advised by AAP so that they can become commercial partners within the air terminal.
