Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Andean Airports of Peru (AAP) reported that the airports of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Juliaca, Puerto Maldonado, and Tacna, under their management and administration, served 3,596,917 passengers during 2023, representing a growth of 10% compared to 2022 and a 1% increase compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic year).

"Despite the Juliaca airport being closed for almost 4 months, we have managed to surpass the passenger flow compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic year. We conducted 27,698 operations, including commercial flights, cargo, and other special flights, representing a 7% growth compared to 2022," reported Carlos Antonioli, Operations Manager of AAP.

AAP reported that Arequipa was the most visited city in 2023 with 2,001,084 passengers, followed by Tacna with 557,059, Ayacucho with 356,987, Juliaca with 353,625, and Puerto Maldonado with 328,162. Additionally, it detailed that in terms of cargo transportation in air operations, 4,720,000 kg were transported, 18% more than the previous year.

"Our team continues to work to provide high-quality airport services that allow the increase in visitor flow to the regions, facilitating the development of tourism and other economic activities that contribute to the development of the Southern regions. Always with the commitment to work and serve our passengers and the entire airport community," affirmed Carlos Antonioli.

It is worth noting that the Arequipa airport will receive and serve, in the months of February and May, the delegations from the 21 foreign economies participating in the pre-summit meetings of APEC 2024, an event declared of national interest that will bring the highest authorities and leaders of the forum's member economies, top executives from the Asia-Pacific's leading companies, as well as thousands of delegates and representatives.

In the same year, 2024, the Ayacucho airport will host 2,725 athletes from 7 delegations participating in the Bolivarian Games 2024, which will feature 8 days of events, 25 sports, and 27 sports disciplines across 22 training venues.
