The increase in passenger flow will begin in the days leading up to the event. Only between September 25 and 29, around 34 thousand people are expected.
Andean Airports of Peru (AAP) reported that more than 60 thousand people will mobilize through the Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón Airport on the occasion of the 36th PERUMIN Mining Convention, facilitated by 388 airport operations scheduled before, during, and after the event.
Between September 25 and 29 alone, the days of the mining summit, over 34 thousand people will arrive at the Arequipa airport on more than 100 commercial flights. However, AAP anticipates that passenger traffic will increase even before the inauguration of PERUMIN.
"We have estimated that the passenger flow will begin to increase two days before the mining event. Therefore, this year we will increase the number of air operations in the days leading up to it by 19.4%, compared to 2022," stated Carlos Antonioli, AAP's Operations Manager.
Antonioli emphasized that the infrastructure of the Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón Airport in Arequipa allows for the handling of simultaneous operations, which is crucial during periods of high demand or when significant events take place in the city, such as PERUMIN, the most important mining exhibition on the continent.
AAP has coordinated the reception of the first passengers attending the convention. The schedule of activities includes traditional dances from the region and mining sector-related activations organized by partner companies.
Arequipa has the terminal with the highest passenger flow within the group of airports managed by AAP. In August, they received 186,721 travelers and recorded 1,289 airport operations, while in July, 176,085 people arrived in 1,242 operations.
