New terminal of the Arequipa Airport

Pre-investment study (profile) of the project  technical approval of the MTC

Currently, our "Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón" International Airport in Arequipa has a 6,365 m2 Passenger Terminal, a 2,980 m long runway and an aircraft parking platform for two contact positions and four remote positions. 

The growth of the flow of visitors to the region is increasing, requiring the construction of new facilities to meet the passenger demand expected for the region in the coming years.

The project called "Improvement of the infrastructure through the construction of a new Passenger Terminal, Parking Building, F&R station, Control Tower, Platform, Taxiways and Accesses", which contemplates the expansion and reconfiguration of the existing commercial platform, adaptation of the runway strip and security areas, and the construction of the new Passenger Terminal with an area of 37,980 m2:

  • Six boarding bridges
  • New Control Tower, seven stories and 28 m high
  • New Firefighting and Rescue Station
  • New Vehicle Parking Building for 638 spots
  • New bus parking area for 20 spots
  • New taxi parking area for 180 spots
  • New accesses
  • New commercial areas

The estimated investment is USD 300 million, which will be implemented over a period of six years, with the new infrastructure coming into operation from year seven. With this intervention, enough capacity will be reached to serve an approximate number of 6.5 million passengers per year.

Our "Inca Manco Cápac" airport in the city of Juliaca, located 3,800 meters above sea level, has a 4,200-meter-long runway, two taxiways and a parking apron. Due to the continuous operations and severe weather conditions in the area, the construction and rehabilitation of the new runway and drainage system has been planned.

The estimated investment of this project is USD 130 million. This will optimize our operations under adequate safety conditions, achieving the development of various economic activities through the connectivity of the region with the country and the world.

The Definitive Engineering Studies (DES) for the extensions and remodeling of the existing passenger terminals of Arequipa, Juliaca, Puerto Maldonado and Tacna, in order to comply with the service levels established by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), are currently under review by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC).

These works contemplate the expansion and overhaul of the Passenger Terminal, Implementation of the Emergency Operations Center and CCTV System of the Passenger Terminal, Redesign of Vehicle Parking Area, Waterproofing and acquisition of Equipment, among others.

The projected expansions consider the infrastructure necessary for the current Passenger Terminals to efficiently support the growth in passenger demand in the coming years.

The Definitive Engineering Study (DES) for the optimization of the perimeter and operational fences of the five airport sites is currently under review by the MTC.

The investment contemplates replacing and adaptating fences in order to comply with the regulations established by the National Civil Aviation Security Program (PNSAC), considering the implementation of video surveillance systems (CCTV) and perimeter lighting, as well as new internal operational fences, which will improve the operational safety of our airports.

We have been implementing the "Remaining Period Equipment Plan" which consists of the replacement or acquisition of equipment necessary for the operation and maintenance of the concessioned airports.

Metal detector gantries, trucks, motorcycles, encapsulated suits, row computers, containers, emergency lights, scaffolding, decontamination kits for emergencies, among others, have been purchased for a value of 800 thousand dollars including IGV.

Likewise, computer equipment, lettering and signage, structured cabling, X-ray machines for the Arequipa headquarters, Flight information screens – FIDs, TUUA collection equipment, check-in scales, CCTV/CoE security equipment, for an approximate value of USD 2.5 million, are in the process of being acquired.

Remediation of environmental liabilities

In 2022, we contracted the execution of the new "Remediation of Environmental Liabilities" work at our five airports with an investment of S/ 11.93 million Soles that consisted of remedying the environmental liabilities identified before the start of the concession.

Among which, were the demolition of structures of noble material qualified as contaminated demolition debris and uncontaminated demolition debris, fiber cement coverings with asbestos content, remains of semi-solid asphalt mixture, remains of solid asphalt mixture, remains of asphalt pavements, remediation of septic wells, useless materials, which were mitigated and disposed of, finally achieving compliance with the guidelines established in current environmental regulations.

Other investments arising from MDP and ARIP

We plan to execute investments derived from the Master Development Plan (MDP) and the Airside Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ARIP), for which the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has been reviewing with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Office of Multiannual Investment Programming – OPMI, the criteria and Strategic Assets in order to improve the structure for the closure of investments under the framework of the Invierte.pe regulations, after which consultancies may be contracted to develop pre-investment and engineering studies and subsequently contract the execution of works.

These include the expansion and remodeling of the passenger terminal of Ayacucho airport, rehabilitation and improvement of the airside of Puerto Maldonado airport, expansion and conditioning of the Rescue and Fire Extinguishing Stations – SEI of the five airports of the second group and other investments in auxiliary facilities for the Improvement of the Airport Service of the five locations for an estimated amount of USD 200 million.
